Entertainment for Anyone, Anywhere
Summary:
Entertainment should be available without any restrictions. Right when you want it.
Any song, movie or TV series that was ever made should be available in any language for rent or to be bought, everywhere. Why is it only possible for Americans to rent movies at the american iTunes Store, if I – as a German – would like to watch Heroes in English, too?
The entertainment industry has the digital material, they have the channels to provide it. So they could offer it to anyone, anywhere, in any language. By the way, Mr. Entertainment Industry, people are willing to pay for it.
Thomas Baekdal just published a bigger and more informative rant on this subject. He rages about restrictions created by current platform dependences (TV, internet, CD/DVD, cinema, etc.) and distribution models (physically, digitally, locally and silly).
His main issue is that consumers are forced into decisions about illegal content procurement, because platform dependences and distribution models don’t offer the desired convenience. I couldn’t agree more.
